Top Tips To Give Your Feet a Treat
When you think about all that your feet do for you isn't it any wonder they get sore now and again? Whilst occasional pain is nothing to worry about always bear in mind that its a sign of the pressure your feet are under. Do yourself a favour and give your feet a regular treat - look after them and maybe they'll look after you.
Below are some simple but effectve techniques for looking after your walking didgets and keeping foot pain at bay.
Pamper Your Feet With Water And Oils
The Hydromassage - Try a 'Hydromassage' by using 2 basins of water - one hot basin and one cold basin. Get yourself comfy in your favourite chair and place your feet in the cold water. After 5 minutes switch to the hot water and then keep on repeating. This treat is great for boosting circulation in your feet!
Essential Oils - Fill a bowl of hot water and add 2 drops of peppermint oil, along with 4 drops each of eucalyptus and rosemary oil. Soak your feet for 10 minutes and feel the love.
Home Brew - Don't have any essential oils at home? Try brewing up a strong cup of peppermint tea and add that to the water instead.
The Power Of Arnica - Soak your feet in a warm-water footbath spiked with 15g of arnica tincture. The improved bloodflow almost instantly results in less foot pain.
Massage Magic
The Foot Roller - In health-food shops you can buy a roller that is specially designed to massage the soles of your feet. Failing that use a small ball (tennis or golf) or a rolling pin to give yourself an effecive foot massage.
Stimulating Massage Oil - Great for soothing foot pain. Combine 3 drops of clove oil and 3 tablespoons of sesame oil and mix the ingredients together. Massage the resulting oils into your grateful feet - you'll be glad you did. For variety you can also try a mixture of 3 drops of lavender oil, 1 drop of camomile oil and 1 drop of geranium oil mixed into 2 teaspoons of olive oil. Bye Bye foot pain.
The Foot Workout
Pencil Power - scatter a few pencils on the floor then pick them up with your toes. A great little exercise for the relief of foot ache.
Rubber Resistance - Wrap a thick rubber band around all the toes on one foot. Spread your toes and hold the stretch for 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times to relieve shoe bound feet.
Heal Your Heel
Achilles Stretch - Heel pain, especially in the morning, may signal plantar fasciitis. You can try relieving this by stretching the achilles tendon. Stand about a metre from a wall. lace your hands on the wall and move your right leg forward, knee bent. Keep your left leg straight with your heel on the floor. You should feel a 'gentle stretch' in your heel and foot arch. Hold for 10 seconds, switch sides and repeat.
Ice Treatment - Apply an ice pack to your sore heel for about 20 minutes 3 times each day.
